Webb21 dec. 2008 · Bearing clearances are one of the most critical parts of assembling an engine you're most likely going to put your foot into now & then and if you do that just so you can use the small journal 283 crank you're also limiting yourself to using the weaker small journal rods.

But yes if you use a stock bore 327 with 283 crank you get a 301, but you have to change the pistons so the pin height is right.
